This cross country season, our team raced in ten meets. The most exciting meet this season was the Helena Invitational, which was a run held at the school. It allowed the athletes to run in front of a home crowd and really show off the school and their determination. Both teams, boys and girls, won the varsity races, which was a pretty big moment for them. The overall goal for the team this year was to develop as a team and on an individual basis for each athlete. The main objective of the season was to run well and fast, but ultimately, come together as a team and be
unified. According to Coach Sparks, Seeing the moment an athlete realized they ran a PR (Personal Record). After all the workouts, morning practices, and giant hills, being able to see them accomplish a personal goal is always so rewarding. I enjoy coaching cross country because I am able to interact with the athletes, to build relationships and trust with them. I get to see them on their best days and their worst, and watch as their grow into young adults. Being involved in the sport throughout high school and college has allowed me to see how this sport has influenced who I am today and I really enjoy being able to see how cross country develops the athletes at HHS.
